I mentioned in an earlier post about removing the microwave the previous owner had added to Betty…cutting about an 18″ square hole in the walnut panel between the kitchen and bed in the process.
We thought about simply putting a corkboard over the kitchen side and a picture on the bed side, but ultimately decided to do something a little more custom. I built a spice rack and mounted a photo on the back to add interest to the bed side. I cut a groove around all four outside edges of the spice rack box and assembled and glued it directly into the hole for a clean look without having to add additional trim boards, etc. to hold it into place.
For the photo, I took an old Airstream ad and ran it through Photoshop to give it the look of a painting, had it printed on photo paper and glued it to the back of the plywood panel that makes the rear of the box. Instead of building shelves into the spice rack side, we decided to just sit bottles and use magnetic spice containers from Crate and Barrel.

I love aLL of it! The storage space was amazing and it just looked like it had everything you guys would need for traveling. Enjoyed seeing it yesterday and, most of all, enjoyed seeing you guys!
